A wanna-be weekend MacGyver and an aerospace engineer/post-doctoral researcher by trade, who has a severe and nearly fatal allergy to writing journal articles. You could say this is my haven for procrastination, but I’d rather think of it as giving back to society in a more direct way.
“One Hoss Shay” by Oliver Wendell Holmes is an engineer’s poem about a deacon building a one hoss shay of parts with the perfect combination of usefulness and durability, to create a machine with no weakness greater than any other part. The machine survives its designed lifetime perfectly, where the parts wear and eventually fail all at the same time. Something we can all strive for in our endeavors to make and create.
